GROVE PARK SQUASH CLUB News GP v Crewe Vagrants

GP v Crewe Vagrants

The race for this year’s league title is really starting to hot up and Grove Park are well in the mix. Last week’s tight win at 2nd placed New Brighton leaves them just 13 points off the top. The ever reliable Yawar closed out 11-8 in the fifth to secure the tie 3-2 after letting an early lead slip. However, the real bedrock of the team’s challenge this year has been the form of Ky and Liam at the bottom of the order, both recording their seventh consecutive win.

This week they are up against Crewe Vagrants, who are a much better side than their league position suggests. All but one of their matches this season have ended 3-2, but they’ve been at the wrong end of just too many of them. With Grove Park being involved in quite a few 3-2’s themselves recently, the smart money will be on another tight contest. The visitors’ strength lies at the top of the order with one of the best young players around in Eddie Charlton and “Steady Eddie”, Steve Siviter, who has been one of the consistently best players in the league over the last 10 years. The key to this match could be at number three, where Morgan will be hoping to build on the form that brought him his best ever league win against Bowdon’s Mark Fuller a few weeks ago.

Meanwhile Laurence Delasaux has been in awesome form. He is well on his way to recording his third PSA Title within a month despite having to start as a qualifier for all of them! He’ll be back from next week and will be available for the first half finale against league leaders, Heswall.

So come down and support the team, nip into the AGM to vote and support the club as well!
